Gillespie Park

The Historic Gillespie Park

Gillespie Park is located north of downtown Sarasota in the 34236 zip code.

Gillespie Park is one of several historic Sarasota neighborhoods consisting of bungalows, cottages, and Mediterranean style homes. It is named after John Hamilton Gillespie, a prominent citizen and the first mayor of Sarasota. Although platted in 1917, construction of homes in the community and its historic park date back to the 1920’s with many new construction renewal projects mixed in. Homes are competitively priced, yet prices are slowly rising as buyers see the values in homes within such close proximity to downtown Sarasota.

The population of 1542 residents is a mix of young families, professionals, and retirees, with an average age of 36 years old.

The Gillespie Park community association sponsors two annual events: Lobster and Laughter and Gillespie Park Unplugged. In addition, each year Founders Day is celebrated in Gillespie Park with music, food, arts, and crafts.
