Indian Beach Zip Code: 34234
Indian Beach Sarasota, a west of the trail community boasting historic homes, was once inhabited by Indians who left behind a momentum of their existence, Indian middens. Because of the presence of these shell mounds, Connecticut native Dr. F. H. Williams named the community Indian Beach. Dr. Williams, along with several others, platted the subdivision in 1891. Approximately 100 residents built homes and docks along Sarasota Bay. In 1913, the exclusive section of Indian Beach, referred to as DeSoto Terrace was started.
Today, the north Sarasota community of 379 homes is known as one of the oldest neighborhoods in Sarasota. Conveniently located in the museum district, it is an eclectic mix of historic homes and modern residences, with no HOA. In addition, there are no lease or deed restrictions. Residences are as diverse as the homes ranging from artists, musicians, young professionals, retirees, and even some descendants of the original residents.
