Neighborhood History

Location: 1221-1227 North Palm Ave, Sarasota, FL 34236

Built in 1924, this well maintained historic building is part of Sarasota’s rich history. The Sarasota Florida downtown apartments were named after the architect, Francis and his son, Carlton. It is speculated that the spelling of the building name was changed to Frances Carlton over time. Originally built as furnished apartments, this vintage building has maintained its Mediterranean Revival style throughout the years. The downtown apartments offered every possible luxury of its time including silver, linens, speaking tubes, a roof garden and exterior ice box openings so ice could be delivered from the hallway but accessed by the guests from their kitchen. Frances Carlton consists of four blocks with three stories in each block. Many of the original features of the building still exist today. If you want to be downtown and love history, then the Francis Sarasota FL is the place to be.
